WHO CAN TEACH APE IN UTAH
Our goal as adapted physical education teachers in the State of Utah is to work together to develop a set of standards for who can teach adapted PE in Utah. There currently is not a set of standard requirements for who can teach APE in Utah. This set of requirements could include classifications such as education in adapted PE, and being a Certified Adapted Physical Educator (CAPE).
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES OF APE TEACHERS
The roles and responsibilities of adapted physical education teachers are:
-To design curriculum and instruction that allow students to achieve goals
-To instruct students within that curriculum
-To advocate for their program and adapted physical education at their local, state, and national level
-To provide APE services in a variety of settings within the continuum of services
-To evaluate their physical education program to ensure that students are learning and improving on the outlined skills
-To assess students to determine if they are achieving goals and learning effectively within the curriculum
-To provide APE which is individualized
-To write IEP goals and objectives, and assure that students are receiving the supports and services within
-To provide support in students' transition from school to post-high school, including their knowledge of physical education and skills for a lifetime of activity

CONTINUUM OF SERVICE DELIVERY
All students should be educated in the least restrictive environment in which they can effectively learn. The continuum of services outlines the environments where physical education can take place, from the least restrictive to environments where students can receive more support and one-on-one education. This list includes:
1. General physical education
2. General PE with consultation from an APE specialist
3. Direct services from and APE specialist in the general PE setting
4. Some instruction in the general and adapted PE setting
5. Adapted physical education with same-aged peers who do not have disabilities
6. Self-contained adapted PE classroom
7. One-on-one instruction from and adapted PE specialist
8. APE instruction in the child's home or hospital
